Candles can be found in the Dungeon at various randomly generated positions chests, on tables, or, in Nights 4 and 5, in drawers and on beds. They can be lit by pressing C.

When a candle is lit, the same effect as with sparking a light will occur. It will get darker than before for a short while before the candle starts emitting faint orange-yellow light, illuminating the Dungeon. The candle burns for about two minutes, during which its light progressively dims until it finally goes out, at which point the player may lit another candle if they have one.

B to blow[]

"Press B to blow."

- Markiplier

B to blow is a game mechanic and a well-known meme in both Dungeon Nightmares and Dungeon Nightmares II. It is a meme related with the game mechanic to blow a lit candle by pressing B. It is extremely popular among the DN community - in fact, it is so popular, that it has became very iconic for the game to be sometimes referred to as "Press B to blow 2: The Memory".

Mechanic[]

While a candle is still lit, the player may extinguish it prematurely by pressing B.

Blowing out the candle before it burns itself out may seem counterintuitive at first glance, but there are several good reasons why this mechanic exists:

  • Skeletons react to the candle's light, following the player and moving towards them. Lighting a candle directly in front of a Skeleton can result in the Skeleton killing the player.
  • Mary can spot the player from a longer distance when having a lit candle.
  • You need to be able to spark to defeat a Dark Skeleton.
  • Fire Babies are significantly more dangerous when a candle is lit.
  • And probably the most important of all, you need to be able to spark to see Asmodeus.

Trivia[]

  • The phrase "B to blow" was coined by the famous YouTuber Markiplier, when he played played Dungeon Nightmares.
  • Candles cannot be brought to the next dungeon. If you collect any candles in a dungeon and not use them, once you leave the dungeon, they will all disappear from your inventory and you will enter the next night with zero candles, regardless of how many you collected in the previous night.
  • The player may carry a maximum of six candles in each dungeon.
    • However, it is possible to spawn more candles using a cheating program such as Cheat Engine.
    • This is a difference from the first game, as in Dungeon Nightmares 1, the number of candles the player could carry was seemingly unlimited.
  • Collecting and using candles in Nights 6 and 7 is arguably more for harm than good, as they put you at a disadvantage against the Fire Babies, and especially Asmodeus. As such, it is probably better to not use candles in the final two nights at all (don't even collect them).
